Classic Rock Rewind with Ted Nugent
This weeks Classic Rock Rewind features the “Motor City Madman” himself “Ted Nugent”. Born “Theodore Anthony Nugent” on December 13, 1948 in Detroit Michigan. He has quite a few other nicknames he is famous for such as “The Nuge” and “Uncle Ted”.
Ted Nugent is an outspoken supporter of hunting and unrestricted gun ownership and in no way condones the use, or abuse, of alcohol or recreational drugs. He has appeared on quite a few television shows of the reality TV variety and more.
Ted Nugent is, in no way, shy about letting his opinions be known on certain subjects. His use of profanity can be experienced at any of his concerts. He has recorded over 30 albums in his illustrious career that now spans some 50 years of performing and 40 plus years of touring.
There is no doubt that Ted Nugent can make a guitar scream. His first album came out in 1975 titled “Ted Nugent”. This album featured such hits as “Stranglehold, Stormtroopin”, “Hey Baby”, “Just What the Doctor Ordered”, and “Motor City Madhouse”.
His second album was released in 1976 called “Free-For-All” which had the songs “Free-For-All” and “Dog Eat Dog” on it.
Then in 1977 he released “Cat Scratch Fever”. I thought this album was one of his best ever and still consider it my favorite. This album had all good songs, such as the title hit “Cat Scratch Fever”, along with “Wang Dang Sweet Poontang”, “Death By Misadventure”, “Live It Up”, “Sweet Sally“, and “Fist Fightin’ Son of a Gun”. All the above mentioned songs are good ones.
In 1982 he released an album titled “Nugent” which had a song that I really liked called “Bound and Gagged”. It was about the 50 American hostages taken by Iran and Ted tells it like it is.
I have seen Ted Nugent in concert quite a few times and he has never failed to put on a great show for his fans. Below are some audio links to most of the songs mentioned above:
This next link of the song Stranglehold is not kid friendly due to the profanity that Ted unleashes so it’s not a good idea to click it and listen with children anywhere close by or anyone that might become offended by it.
The link below is some footage of Ted Nugent in concert back in 1977 and notice at the beginning how he jumps off of his amp and lands on the stage butt not on his feet, never missing a beat. There is only one other time back in the 70’s that I can remember seeing someone jump off of their equipment while in concert and that was David Lee Roth of Van Halen. Diamond Dave landed on his feet though.
